We want to prevent drowning in the older adults in our community
Did you know that the older Australians are fast becoming the highest risk demographic of drownings in Australia? 2017/18 National Drowning Report- 35% increase in the fatal drownings rate of adults aged 45-64 years *
Ashburton Pool & Recreation Centre are running the Royal Life Saving Grey Medallion program for older adults (55+), aiming to reduce drowning rates and encourage healthy, independent and active lifestyles. Participants will learn a range of personal survival and lifesaving skills, water safety knowledge, resuscitation and emergency care and will build confidence and competence to enjoy aquatic exercise and other water based activities safely.
*compared to the 10 year average (2007/08 to 2016/17)
Dates and times
Program starts Tuesday 2nd of July and will run every Tuesday from 1.00-3.00pm, for 7 weeks, finishing 13th of August.
